Western is now 6-1 after last week's home win over Silver Lake, which is our last non-DI opponent of the season. From here on out, it's all DI non-conference and then into conference play.

Up this week:

Image
Monday, December 7th at the Iowa Hawkeyes
Tipoff @ 6 PM on the Big Ten Network
Iowa is currently 6-2 overall with wins over Gardner-Webb (76-59), Coppin State (103-68), and at Marquette (89-61). Losses against Dayton (82-77) and #17 Notre Dame (68-62), then wins against #20 Wichita State (84-61), Florida State (78-75 in OT) and UMKC (95-75). They average 83 points per game, give up 68.6 points per game, and were picked to finish 7th in the 14-team Big 10 this season.

Saturday, December 12th vs the Eastern Illinois Panthers
Tipoff @ 2 PM on ESPN3
EIU is currently 2-4, starting off the season with 4 straight losses at #15 Indiana (88-49) and Ball State (73-56) then back home to Western (83-63) and Green Bay (81-72). They then had wins at home against Indiana State (68-62) and Northern Kentucky (79-73 in OT). They have a game at Marshall this Wednesday before coming to Macomb for part 2 of the home-and-home series this season. As mentioned, Western defeated Eastern 83-63 at their place on November 21st, in a game where Western outscored the Panthers by 24 points in the second half. Here's the full box score from that game: http://goleathernecks.com/boxscore.aspx ... ll&id=5135

I'd love to see Western go 2-0 this week...it's possible...but I think 1-1 is the most likely scenario. If the Leathernecks can play tough and keep it close against Iowa, even with a loss, and then take down Eastern by anything near the margin they did the first time, then I'd be pretty satisfied with how things are going at this point in the season. I'd love to see another Big 10 upset this evening though ;)

And Western beats eastern again. 64-57 this time. Covington crossed the 1000 point threshold.

Covington now has 1,004 points in his career, which puts him at 23rd on Western's all-time scoring list (and...I think...7th in the Div. I era).

It's always nice to rack up those wins before conference play.

I still miss CC's clutch shooting ability. May have been the best clutch 3 point shooter WIU has ever had.
