WIU presidential mansion for sale
We need every little bit that we can do at this point. $600k is a pretty big chunk off of what needs to be cut from the budget, and the annual maintenance on the property is essentially one low-level secretary or building service worker's salary. Also, a lot of universities have, in recent years, decided that it's better to get rid of having a "university home" for their president and instead just offer a housing stipend or something. The house that the university has does not always fit with the university president's (and their family's) needs.Necks2003 wrote: Wed Nov 13, 2024 11:51 am Seems like chump change in the bigger picture. Having a perk like free housing may be something that could sway a candidate or two.
Housing in Macomb is pretty cheap. In a few years, if they want to get a nice house to have for the university to use, they could probably get one that would work for half that price. But right now, the money is more important.

10 acres is pretty good size chunk of land to go with it. While the home is rather stately, what could be done with land other than just mowing it every week. A developer could probably build several nice homes there I would think. Assuming the Lamoine does not overflow and flood into it.

What is the current state of the old Lamoine Village area to the south of the mansion. A look at Google Maps seems to show there is still some buildings there.

They look like they belong in a movie about a post-apocalyptic world.sealhall74 wrote: Sat Nov 16, 2024 6:32 am What is the current state of the old Lamoine Village area to the south of the mansion. A look at Google Maps seems to show there is still some buildings there.

Pretty much, yeah. They also have stored piles of gravel and stuff over there, although I'm not sure how much is still left.vatusay wrote: Sat Nov 16, 2024 7:46 amThey look like they belong in a movie about a post-apocalyptic world.sealhall74 wrote: Sat Nov 16, 2024 6:32 am What is the current state of the old Lamoine Village area to the south of the mansion.
