My two cents!
1) We sat in the west stands for the first half, and the east stands for the second half. There was one EIU fan that was just “crazy” each time a penalty was called. Why anyone would want to officiate is a mystery to me.
2) I am not an OC but if I was I might want to run some sweeps and pitches. Throwing the ball up is just that. Not sure we had the physical advantage to make the most of that type of pass. Clearing the middle out and throwing to LL seemed to me to work the best. He is very talented and as time goes on, the attention he gets is going to allow TN to pass the ball to a whole lot of other people.
3) I think TN had the opportunity to run for some yardage yesterday. Not sure why he chose to try to pass it instead.
4) The entire west side of the stands was filled with people. I mean, packed with people!! Once again, September heat made the east stands a bad place to go until the sun went down. Kudo’s to the band who never flinched the entire game because of heat. Can’t say that about the EIU linemen.
5) The west side was dressed up last night. Large section signs, painted, Leathernecks and Rocky eye’s on both sides of the pressbox with flags in place. It’s outdated and begs for a remodel, but until that time comes, it looked really good. Kudos to the AD for taking this to task. The bleachers on the west side are tight to say the least. The bleachers on the east side are large and really nicely done. If you want to lean back though, go to the west side. The east bleacher size makes this move almost impossible. Give me a remodeled west side with a pressbox twice as wide and twice as tall, and I will be very happy for many many years, in fact till death do us part!
6) I was amazed at the defense. It was suppose to be tested, it was and it responded. The defense got better every play and every quarter.
7) The offense as Coach N said, was just not consistent. This will only get better.
8) Kickoffs, great, field goals, okay, punting, well done, punt returns, absolutely. Not sure about kickoff returns basically because EIU had only one.
9) Hang on to your hats folks, the fun is just beginning.
10) Found the scoreboard/video board to be a really great enhancement. I would love to see one closer to the action and larger but still, it was very entertaining and I think the athletic department is doing a great job making the most of it. Just fun stuff. I also like the music!
11) PS. The Leatherneck club is hosting a gathering for all fans and LC members at the team hotel in Champaign on Friday night. The “Leatherneck Linkup” begins at 6:00 pm. Hope to see you there.
Enough said! jc
My two cents!
The west side stands do look good when they are packed with people. There were large groups of people sitting on the hillside at both ends of the west stand.
There are still some Life Safety Code liabilities with the lack of hand rails in the aisles. There are 25 rows on the west side.
Older individuals and those with physical limitations should consider sitting on the east side where there are handrails in the aisles.
I did notice one thing that could be significant: There is a support pillar inside the Men's Bathroom underneath the west stands. This pillar is cracked in many places and parts of it are just gone. I am not sure how much of a "load-bearing" it has.
