I don't know what the hell the coaches are doing or what any of you are seeing, but that SDSU loss is the example of what I'm talking about. Forget about the officials.
Garrett was on fire in the 1st half then shut down in the 2nd. Why? All the guards dribbling too much, none of the bigs posting up, and barely any passes into the paint.
Soft inside game again. Gilbeck fouls out, Tate got in trouble, and SDSU attacks the lane in the 2nd half.
WIU lost that game because of way too damn much jump shots. I counted 7 passes into the lane all game, and only 6 attempted layups/shots in the lane all game.
Looks like what started like a bright year will fade away as teams will see this and take advantage of it.
I'm my opinion someone needs to talk to the coaches, get their heads out of their asses, and change the offense. Put the ball inside, attack the rim, and become more aggressive on defense in the lane.
What happen to this team
Do they even have any sets to run?
Flash backs of the Derek Thomas era....
Run around and let's see what happens.
They have the players on the outside. Having at least some kind of inside game will only open up shots for them with nice ball movement. If they can get that going they should be just fine. Until then, it's going to be ugly to watch.
How handy would obi be right now? Lol

say what you want, but this team is one of the better ones wiu has had.do they have a long way to go?yes.but can they get there?yes to that too.we do need some inside presence.and just about everyone of the bigs is getting the chance.all the bigs, besides tate, are inexperienced and really have been up and down.lets hope they keep improving and have more ups than downs come playoff time.yes, this team will be in tournament.i also love what im seeing in bruster.the coach has been working him in slowly to keep the pressure off him and it looks like its working.GO LEATHERKNECKS.

I just watched the 2nd half again. That was pretty ugly fundamental basketball on both sides but give them credit, good teams find a way to win without their best. As for us, I was paying much attention to our screens. All I saw were a whole lot of "air" picks (you could call also them "popcorn fart" picks). Nearly all of them were on the ball, and usually at the arc or close to it. Unless I missed something, I can honestly say we did not get one bucket in the 2nd half which resulted from someone setting a SOLID pick, either on the ball or off the ball. IMO, our bigs need to start setting some good picks for EACH OTHER so they can curl to bucket and look for lob from guard. At least it would be a nice variation to what we have now, most of which is not working well. Tate finding his mid-range game is about the only positive I can come away with in recent play.

I agree 100%. It just looked totally "haphazard" for lack of a better word.vatusay wrote:In second half i just got the impression guys were just standing around thinking "well, i guess i could go set a screen? See what happens?"

Hmmm? Not good. Does any insider know if the Athletic Department has a comprehensive disciplinary policy or is it left up to each coach to deal with it?wiu712 wrote:More bad news.

I agree Vatusay! The lack of an inside game is definitely a problem for the Necks at this point of the season. And Seal, they definitely lost some of their flow and offensive cohesiveness in the second half. It's been my experience that as a team begins to loose its momentum players either stand and watch which requires someone to step up and a lot of times force the ball, or they bunch up which makes it tougher to get proper spacing and is definitely easier to defend. A drive in desperation is seldom awarded free throws. Now a couple of calls definitely did not go our way. The offensive foul by Tate was totally questionable but I think that's an example of a player seemingly out of control. Then, on the free throw at the end, the SdSt player pushed our rebounders farther under the basket which allowed him the chance to rebound the ball even though I felt it was a definite over the back. JC just does not seem to be getting the space he needs to shoot or drive to the hole and the big kid is just that, a big body with a ton of potential playing his first year of D1 ball. The best part about this team is the potential it has to get a lot better.

If we use another school's model, he should be good to go!
