Jack men and women went to NCAA tournament. USD women HOSTING Oregon tomorrow night in NIT semifinal. Augustana University captured DII men's championship. The people in South Dakota treat the game of basketball much differently than any other place I have been. You have to witness their support in person to really appreciate it.

The Dakotas also have the Midco Sports Network which televises a lot of their games. We have nothing like that here.

Also remember that the USD WBB draws 1844 for home games and the SDSU WBB draws 2381 whether the team is televised or not. The USD women lost one home game and the SDSU women lost 2 home games this season. The home court advantage has some help with a home crowd. Gravina has tried some things to get some crowds, but it has been an uphill pull. One game I thought he bought a IPad for a drawing to bring in students. Most of the crowd at Brookings is not comprised of students, but they are adult season ticket holders.

IMO, one big issue that Tanney needs to work is the broadcasting of our football and basketball. ESPN3 is a great outlet to have but do we have the right personnel in place there? Yes, our students do a reasonably good job at it but they are no where near the professional level that I see from the Dakota broadcast crews. Would it not make sense to have our experienced radio guys also do the video stream broadcast? If I am not mistaken, I think the Dakota crews work that way. I.E, one broadcast crew (play-by-play and color) generate both the radio and TV streams.

To bad are radio crew is flat out awful Cody does a nice job but kornberg is horrendous plus how are the students supposed to learn without experience there is a reason that WIU broadcasting department is #1 or #2 in the state every year.

I knew I would touch a sensitive nerve with a lot of people on this matter. Kornberg is a pro just like Beau before him. Our broadcasting students are just that, STUDENTS who are learning the trade. They would still have plenty of opportunity to learn by working the non-revenue games and assisting during the football and basketball, maybe still doing the color and sideline reporting as necessary. But we are lacking a true identity during our broadcasts (i.e. a recognizable and consistent "Voice of the Leathernecks") that the whole Leatherneck Nation audience can identify with and trust will be there for most broadcasts. Having a former Leatherneck color guy (like a Mark Bloom for football a while back) would also be a nice way to move forward. That one "Voice of the Leathernecks" might also do a top-notch weekly coaches show during the year as well. IMO, this this is one of the areas that differentiates a true DI program from the wannabes. Like I said earlier, it is a tough issue for Tanney to work on, lot of inside politics involved, outside radio stations, etc. We will survive OK the way things are now but we would take a big step forward with some changes IMO.

I never listen to any games on the radio I'm sure Kornberg is a nice guy but comparing him to beau is like comparing a Ferrari to a buick.

USD destroying Oregon tonight. Tune in to SportsCenter and you will likely see an incredible shot from Hemiller to beat the shot clock.

USD will host the WNIT championship on Saturday. Might be Amy Williams last game coaching the Yotes.

Yea, I know. Wrong thread for this news.
