I think they're getting close. The pillars are up...I just noticed them the other day. At that point the columns were there but it looked like they had something on top of them to finish up. In the parking lot, I went past the other day and it looks like they've got the light poles up and stuff too, so it won't be too much longer. Probably need to do some smoothing out of the grassy area next to it (the band practice field section) and get some grass planted so that it'll be good for next year.

I was at the high school football game played at Hanson Field on Friday night: Bushnell-West Prairie vs Elmwood-Brimfield.

The sound from the PA was terrible--barely audible.

Darn, 712. I thought you were going to work out a deal with Rick Springfield to leave his big speakers in McComb until after the Homecoming game. ;)
Embrace the pace of the race.

Good point!
You could hear the Rick Springfield concert all over the northwest side of town!

There are now 2 brick pillars on either side of Western Avenue, just north of the 3-way stop at Adams & Western. The brick is similar to the brick used at new entry way at University Drive & Highway 67.

Looks like those pillars will be part of a new southwest entry way.

Wanted to give a bit of an update on construction on the south end of Western Avenue.

Not sure what they're going to add to the top of the columns, but here's a current shot of the East one (there is an identical one on the West side of the road). It's hard to tell in the photo, but I'd say they're somewhere around 8 feet tall currently:

They appear to be done with the new brick medians on Western Ave. heading up towards Browne Hall:

Also, there's a circular area off to the side kinda between the old and new parking lots. Not sure if they're going to add something to that or what:

That "circle area" is basically just a decorative waiting area to cross. It has stairs from the back of it that allow the people from the lower lot to get up to the crossing area.

I was wondering I know the athletes do a ton of community service projects and items around the campus, but for football or something like this I surprised they dont ask them if they would like to paint the wooden bleachers or do some kind of easy yet noticeable project at Hanson field that would enhance their playing area and be for the fans in return for their support. I am guessing 80 football players could knock that out in couple hours

ST I believe I remember you saying you worked on the WIU Campus Projects page and just wanted to say this page is awesome I check in about once a week and someone has regularly updated photos of ongoing projects and made it easy to watch as these are completed. Definitely makes and alumni happy to be able to see what is going on there and feel a part somewhat. Thanks again!
