I just discovered minutes from a Capital Development Board meeting held on 9/9/14 that allowed for the modification of the CPA contract to include about another $200,000 or so to update the plans for its construction. (codes, materials, and architect-engineering to become once again involved in the construction process) It also listed November 6th as the date for the single prime contractor award. Let's just get this party started!!!!!! ;) jc

Interesting, so basically the bids should be read tomorrow at the school somewhere from what that is saying. Well I guess that means the dirt moving will happen soon most likely sometime early in the spring.

Took another look at the master plan today on the WIU website and amazingly they are way ahead of schedule on everything except the CPA and even this will only be one year over schedule and be complete in 2017 instead of 2016. According to this the last item to be finished was the CPA in phase I and they have already started on a few items on Phase II which was not supposed to start until 2016. The first item on the list for Phase II is the visitors center which was supposed to begin work in 2016 and be completed by 2017 so we will see in the next few years if the school decides to go ahead with this. First item will be the complete demolition of the old Cinema and the parking lot surrounding it. Which just doing that and planting some grass and tress will look 100 times better on that end of school. I am surprised they have not already done this even though it will most likely cost upwards of $250,000. I would expect to see the demo happen next year as it is such a focal point of the school with the new entryway.

Here is a reason that Illinois and WIU need to step up their game and figure out how to bring in more revenue. Even the high schools in Texas are bigger than Illinois Universities.

From the read below it looks like the PAC has not bid out yet. Sounds like it will happen in December or January once the architect has verified all documents are up to date. The expected start is sometime in the spring so probably March or April.

The "W" on both of the new brick pillars on Western Avenue are back lit. Looks nice!

ST, I read that over 60 lamps were installed on campus to help with lighting issues. Is there any chance of anyone putting info up on the campus projects regarding that? Definitely seems like an item you guys would cover especially involving increase in student safety. I pasted the article on here it is towards the bottom of article where they talk about it, only one paragraph.

Wanted to post this for you guys to see. Nothing huge, but something that I think will look really nice when it's done.
It's from a Facilities Management Master Plan presentation showing plans for the west edge of Q-lot.

Essentially, taking the area where people currently drive in, turn it into a walkway continuation of the area across the street. Then open up the next entrance east of that as an entrance to q-lot.
If you take a look at the map, you can see where that currently is, and that it wouldn't really take much work to make it happen since it was an entrance/exit in the past.

Looks very nice, are they going to redo the entire lot while they are at it our just basically the drive area and leave the parking as is? Could definitely use the work, but I like what they are doing basically building on the future. I could definitely see how this would tie in if they ever actually build and arena in that area.

At this point I think they're likely to just redo the areas where work is being done...the new entry/exit, around the edges, any "problem spots", but for the most part, leave it as-is to save money, especially (as you mentioned) if they do happen to be able to build the arena at some point down the road, they don't want to do all the work and spend the $ to redo the whole lot and then tear up half of it again.
