Most glaring stat to me is the number of SHOTS vs. that of the opponent.  I wont even throw out the numbers.  It is one thing to have bad aim but when you cant even pull the trigger, you got major problems.

Title IX is a joke.

The pendulum has swung back.

Literally everyone knows the only thing 90% of fans care about is Football and Mens Basketball. Period. Full stop.

It was that way in 1975. It is that way in 2025.

I am in no way advocating to go back to the old times. Women will never make meaningful money playing sports after College.

Why are we chartering and bussing these ladies across the country to play in empty arenas?

Thoughts?

I don't know if you've noticed, but women's college and pro basketball has gotten hugely popular in the last few years. It's not at the level of the NBA or the men's NCAA, but it's leaps and bounds ahead of where it was a decade ago. That's beside the point though.

It's not about women going into sports professionally, it's about making sure there are the same number of opportunities for women to get a college scholarship for playing sports and be able to get a college degree with little to no debt. If a university is offering 100 scholarships for students who can only be men (football, men's basketball), then it only makes sense that they should also provide the same (or fairly close to these same) number of opportunities for women. It's not about the sport, the success, the number of fans watching, or the money...it's a vehicle to allow gifted and hard-working student athletes to get a college education when they may not otherwise be able to.

It also gives them a springboard towards a successful career and the opportunity to give back. I'd imagine if you look at a list of the university's top donors, a decent number of them are former athletes...not ones that made their money in pro sports...ones that went on to successful careers in business, finance, or other vocations.

As for women not making "meaningful money" playing sports after college, the vast majority of our male athletes aren't going to make a dime playing professionally after college either...are you advocating that we cut our entire athletics program?

How much NCAA dollars come to WIU either directly or indirectly (e.g. via conference payout) in a typical year?  I asssume it varies somewhat from year to year based on performance of teams, conference, etc.
