Anyone got the scoop on the McCowan injury? Hoping its not serious and she can come back soon. Favorable schedule with an easy game next and the game after is 2 weeks from the Lindenwood game.

Impressive win on the road last night with Mia in foul trouble the first half and McCowan out almost the entire 2nd half. Wow! What a performance for that team. Good teams find ways to win even when things dont go their way. In my opinion WIUWBB has not had a lot of those teams.

Heard could be out for 4 weeks.

I only watched the first half live but remember thinking to myself that, this year, JD seems to have a pretty good 1-2 punch balance at all court positions with the obvious exception of Nicastro at the post.  McCowan will be missed but we know Shetley can put the ball in the bucket.  I would expect her to be pretty aggressive during Reagan's absence.

Anyone have any updates on McCowans injury? How much longer is she out?

Sounds like they are hoping McCowan will be back after this 4 game road trip.

More details about McCowan: https://iowacollegehoops.com/2026/02/02 ... w-to-heal/

Idk if we'd be able to keep her around that long, but how awesome would it be for her to get a medical redshirt for this year and play two more years for us.
I believe we'll be losing Allie Meadows, Addi Brownfield, Mia Nicastro, and Mallory Shetley after this season due to graduation (or being out of eligibility). I know that a few of the younger players have been getting some more minutes with McCowan out and the team playing well (Kaylen Reed, Madison Davis, etc.), but it'd be really nice to have someone with the talent and experience of McCowan around for a couple more years to help usher in the next wave of players.

She has played in 10 games thus far.  I believe the cutoff for medical redshirt is no more than 30% of total games during a season.
We are sitting at 21 games with 8 games left in regular season and hopefully 3 more come March tournament time making a potential grand total of 32 games.

32 games * 0.30 = 9.6 games

So it is very close but it may be in "no cigar" territory.  I wonder if they round up or down?

I hope she can get back to at least 80% of her normal self about 2 weeks before conference tournament and go from there.

Looks like it also must be a "season ending" injury, which she wouldn't qualify for if she came back and played this season. That being said, there are currently a few legal challenges in-process against the NCAA for some of those requirements, which could change the math in a year or so.

Honestly, I think I would rather have her come back and play this season. This might be the best chance to make the NCAA tournament. Unless they can bring in some transfers, I don't see the next couple of seasons being able to top what they are doing this year.
