Bob Nielson contract status

If you want to talk about Monmouth University Football, Quincy University Basketball, Notre Dame Men's Soccer, or whatever, this is the place.

I love this rule something IL should think about implementing it holds state employees accountable and not just ball coaches but any state employees if you are not performing in your job you would be out at the end of the year.
As far as giving Nielson a long term contract what does it say to the rest of there state workers who have been working for them several yrs that they don't matter but a FB coach who has never won a game for there football program means more didn't Nielson know this law when agreed to go there i could see this ticking him off and leaving after this season.

I find it interesting in this report that USD made a conscious and strategic decision to hire a HC from the same conference. Nothing like creation of ill will in the conference. I hope we beat them 56-13 this year...

True. There are also posts making fun of those of us who think we actually got a better deal with our new coach.

So what? (I do hope the football team has some revenge on it's mind as well, though. ;) - even if it's just to say "don't mess with us")

As an aside, I do think that the year to year thing could have some benefits - perform or leave.

SDSU must be doing ok with one year contracts. Scott Nagy, who's dad Dick Nagy was long time assistant to "Losin' Lou" Henson at U of I, has been the Head Basketball coach at SDSU for over 20 years I believe. Matt Margenthaler as his first asst and was there six years before becoming Head Coach at MN State - Mankato

Western used to have 1-year contracts for all coaches. Van Alstine changed that, I believe when Molinari came, and all head coach contracts since then have been multi-year.

I talked to the SD radio announcer between the women and men's game Saturday. I asked if they had gotten Coach Nielson's contract multi year issues worked out? He said not really. I remember Jack Margenthaler telling me the day he got the SIU-E job he received a multiple year contract. I can't remember if if it was two, maybe five. Anyway Jack told me "I got 15 one year contracts at Western!"
