3 years ago Obi Emegano helped WIU make an unbelievable run in the Summit League tournament. They knocked off Oral Roberts in their final year in the league and lost in the title game against South Dakota State in OT in pretty much a home game.
I wonder how the WIU faithful will feel about his return to Western Hall since he felt for ORU because he was homesick?
Obi Returns to WIU
Oral Roberts won 66-57 in a very roughly-played game.
ESPN named Garret Covington as Western's "Top Performer": 18 Pts, 6 Reb, 4 Ast.
Attendance at Western Hall was 1,314.
There was a big free throw differential in this game. Oral Roberts shot 36 free throws (made 28). Western shot 20 free throws (made 17).
Obi Emegano played 38 minute and scored 28 points.
Attendance at the other Saturday games:
Denver at IUPUI = 1,151. IUPUI won 52-49.
South Dakota at IPFW= 1,153. South Dakota won 64-62.
South Dakota State at Nebraska-Omaha = 1,877. SDSU won 87-68.

Embarrassed to say I fell asleep in hotel room very early in this one. Sounds like Obi had his way with us. Also post-game presser pointed to Little Mike (is it still OK to call him that now that Big Mike is gone? Hey, if the shoe fits...) went down with injury. Was it contact or non-contact? Only access to game highlights so I doubt if that is on there. Sucks we lost the ability to replay the game from archive. Anyone care to speculate on severity? You hate to lose a good shooter and probably the most consistent shooter of the bunch.
Embrace the pace of the race.
Mike Miklusak went down two minutes into the game. It occurred under the ORU basket. There was a big battle under the basket. It appeared that he may have been shoved/pushed.
He went into the locker room and came out a while later with a big ice pack on his right leg and knee. He wore that for the rest of the first half.
The Oral Roberts team plays a very rough and rugged game. One of their players fouled out on a Technical.
As I remember, their Women's team is also very rough and physical. It was ORU that knocked a few teeth out of Zane Teilane.
Here is the write-up of the game from the "Tulsa World" (newspaper):
Obi Emegano scores 28 to lead Oral Roberts past Western Illinois.
Obi Emegano’s left leg appears to be just fine.
The redshirt junior, after hyper-extending his left leg on Wednesday against IUPUI, shrugged off any lingering pain and scored 28 points Saturday night to guide Oral Roberts to a 66-57 victory over Western Illinois at Western Hall in Macomb, Illinois.
Emegano saved the day after three ORU starers fouled out in the second half, including the Golden Eagles’ second-leading scorer Korey Billbury. Denell Henderson, and Brandon Conley also fouled out, leaving Albert Owens as the only big man left for the Golden Eagles late in the game.
The only other ORU player to score in double figures was Adrion Webber with 11. The senior from Muskogee also had eight rebounds.
“Adrion Webber was terrific in the second half,” ORU coach Scott Sutton said. “He made big play after big play.”
ORU (8-8) is back to .500 while also moving to 2-1 in Summit League play.
Western Illinois (7-8, 2-2) and ORU went back and forth in the second half, but the Golden Eagles pulled away from the Leathernecks got to within 54-53 with 3:12 left. Emegano followed by making two free throws to extended ORU’s lead. Western Illinois scored only four more points the rest of the way.
Garret Covington led Western Illinois with 18 points. Jamie Batish added 14 points.

ORU had three players foul out and only 3 fewer fouls (21-24) than us. I am having trouble understanding how they went to the line so many more times than we did (36-20).

Good Crowd, at least. Obi performance expected, unfortunatley. keeping player in Macomb a bitch.
